Native range
Trichocereus bridgesii is documented from Bolivia and from Huanuco, Peru; tips offered in Bolivian witches' markets (apparently for tourists) are the closest cacti yet seen to the pachanot but tend to bear some much longer spines. [Pachanoi or Pachanot? (Keeper Trout, Trout's Notes)]
Habitat
Trichocereus bridgesii occurs in Bolivia, where tips are offered in witches' markets (apparently for tourists); these market cuttings are the closest cacti the author has seen to the pachanot but tend to show some much longer spines (often removed on the cuttings). [Pachanoi or Pachanot? (Keeper Trout, Trout's Notes)]
Growing & propagation
T. bridgesii prefers much drier conditions than San Pedro and forms black rot easily with abundant watering, especially the monstrose form; BORG 1937 (cited) advises avoiding calcareous (calcium-rich) soils for it. [Trout's Notes on the Cultivation & Propagation of Cacti]
In Central Texas, T. bridgesii proved hardy only to around 28-29 degrees F (attributed to high winter humidity), whereas in northern California it thrived down to 20 degrees F with little loss. [Trout's Notes on the Cultivation & Propagation of Cacti]
Clone genealogy
Trichocereus bridgesii specimens at the Huntington (accession H 1294) were grown from 8 seedlings obtained from Curt Backeberg, received 9 February 1932; other documented bridgesii material includes cuttings from Huanuco, Peru, plants in Bolivia, and a bridgesii grown from Friedrich Ritter's seeds obtained in 1953.
